This Is What Sand Looks Like

I spotted these photos on The Daily Mail (London) website and was completely blown away by the beauty of them. This is sand, viewed at a magnification of over 250 times real life. The photos were shot by Professor Gary Greenberg in Hawaii through a powerful microscope. Greenberg has published a book, A Grain of Sand, with these and other photos. You can get it here.
