SPD Presents: ART + INFO Master Class with STEVE DUENES

SPD Presents: ART + INFO Master Class with STEVE DUENES

I don't pretend to be an expert on infographics. In fact, I'm pretty intimidated by all but the ones that have lots of cool spot illustrations (pretty pictures--I get that!), and wish that I could wrap my brain around organizing sometimes-difficult information like a real pro. I believe that it takes a special kind of design thinker to make sense of small bites and facts. Or maybe I just get a whiff of math and head for the hills, which is silly. This stuff is actually fascinating, and, in all seriousness, it's a crucial skill for a designer today.

Clearly, SPD members are clamoring for more information on information--so much so that Steve Duenes upcoming Master Class, ART + INFO, sold out moments after the post went up. It's an important class that only a select group of lucky (and speedy) folks will be privileged to attend. But it serves as a reminder to SPD as to how important events like these are to our membership, so stay tuned for upcoming Master Classes that will address topics like remaining vital in your job.

We wanted to provide you with some of Steve's suggested reading, so you can follow along at home. Click on these books to make your Amazon purchases, if you don't already own them:

Edward Tufte's first book, THE VISUAL DISPLAY OF QUANTITATIVE INFORMATION (not as scary as it sounds)

INSIDE OUT (National Geographic)

DATA FLOW 2: Visualizing Information in Graphic Design (note from Gail: I own DATA FLOW 1 and it's pretty great)

Steve also suggests this article from SEED magazine:

And we'll follow up with more from Steve as the class approaches, and again, after.
