Ted Keller was the art director for this cover of The Voice, from September 25, 2001. At the time they had the then-Voice photo intern, Andre Souroujon, take a postcard, go to Brooklyn, and photograph his hand holding the card. Says Reader's Digest creative director Robert Newman: "I always loved that cover of The Voice. For me it was the most memorable and evocative image that was published after the event. I still can't look at it without getting misty-eyed. When it came time for us to do a Reader's Digest cover tied to the 10th anniversary of 9/11, this seemed like a natural to reprint. It hits all the right notes of sadness and the sense of loss, but also gives a feeling of hope and pride."
