Senior Designer

The Senior Designer is responsible for designing front-of-the-book stories for the print magazine as well as translating them for the iPad and Android tablets under the direction of the Design Director and Creative Director. He/she is responsible for stories from concept to completion. The Senior Designer will collaborate with the photo team in defining the visual direction for stories and will help edit pickup film. He/she will collaborate with editors and as well as other designers and the production department during the monthly design and closing cycles of the print magazine and tablet editions. The designer will commission illustration and contribute to art discussions regarding visual concepts for the issues. * Design innovative, dynamic front-of-book layouts for the print magazine and for the tablet editions under the supervision of the Design Director. * Guide assigned stories through the entire production process (visual concept, image choice, layout, print orders, page files, page proofs). * Commission illustrations.

Assistant Art Director

Departures Magazine is seeking a strong designer to bring passionate dedication and creative collaboration to our magazine. The ideal candidates must be hard working, ambitious conceptual thinkers with strong typographic skills and a positive attitude. He/she will be responsible for designing pages for any or all sections of the magazine while striving to continually push and explore the visual direction. Candidates will conceptualize, assign and art direct illustration and, while under the supervision of the Design Director and Art Director, work closely with the photo department art directing imagery. He/she must have the ability to work closely with editors to assist in creating visually captivating design solutions while excelling at working both independently and in a team environment, paying close attention to detail and deadlines. Must also assist Production Manager with production tasks as needed. Responsible for working with editors and photo department to design front-of-book layouts and sections like BlackBook, a sizable news/notes package. Also, Perform administrative duties, such as issuing contracts to illustrators and trafficking color and page proofs. Act as backup to production manager, documenting and sending out art, liaising with Prepress house, when necessary.

Editorial/Art Production Assistant

Description: The Production Assistant will support two Production Managers charged with producing and delivering perfectly executed print and digital editions of a national consumer magazine as well as branded books. - Collect and perform cursory markup of high-res photography; send, receive and track files to/from Photo Department and pre-press vendor. - Flow copy and adapt graphic elements from print to digital editions with visual sensitivity and total accuracy. - Apply styles and tighten layouts; kern and rag text. - Facilitate Art Department workflow by creating image logs, updating layout wall, inputting design changes and building template layouts. - Route and track proofs; prepare press-ready files and assets. - Assign interactivity; test and improve user experience and functionality in digital editions using Woodwing/Content Station and Adobe Digital Publishing Suite tools.

This is an entry-level position with opportunities for growth in the publication design field.
