Outside is seeking a highly organized photo editor with at least 5 years of photography and/or magazine experience to join our talented team here in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico!

Responsibilities:

-Research, pitch, and assign photographers for covers, features, and some FOB pages.

-This requires a good, current knowledge of all areas of photography including portraiture, adventure, travel, food, and reportage.

-Organize and oversee all aspects of shoot production: working with talent, hiring and managing crews, reigning in the wild and out of control ideas of both the photographers and the creative directors, securing locations and permits, orchestrating shoot logistics, and managing budgets for both domestic and international shoots.

-Check proofs for final color tweaks, photo credits, captions, and markup for retouch.

-Travel to some photo shoots to ensure that the needs of the magazine are being met.

-Manage photo team and budgets.

-Negotiate photographer contracts and image rights.

Desired skills:

-5(+) years photographic and/or magazine experience in a professional setting including outside talent contracting, basic negotiations with photographers, stock houses, agents, retouchers, etc.

-Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills and an affable personality

-Must demonstrate expert knowledge of editorial photography's history and current industry trends.

-Detail oriented and well organized with a commitment to high quality work

-Resourceful team player with strong problem-solving skills

-Ability to juggle multiple projects across platforms & meet deadlines

-Experience with Adobe creative suite and K4 (or can be trained)

-Must show examples of previous work and/or personal work that shows your personal aesthetic.

Designer, Outside magazine

This is an entry-level position at an award-winning national magazine based in Santa Fe, NM. Designer will be responsible for pages in both the monthly and the biannual Buyer's Guide (summer and winter) under the direction of the Creative Director. This position will also have the opportunity to assign illustrations and research stock photography as well as assist our in-house studio photographer. This job requires the ability to get along well with others and interact with other departments. A healthy respect and appreciation for the outside world is not required but highly encouraged.
