Interview Follow-up: "I'm Taking Andy With Me"

In a rare-for-these-days bit of detail, Glenn O'Brien talked with Fashion Week Daily about his departure, along with Creative Directors M/M (Paris), from Interview on Monday and Fabien Baron's return to the mag as sole Editorial Director. Kind of a don't-miss piece if you haven't read it already... seems a bit like a 70s-throwback kind of big personality event, a little  à la Mailer-Vidal on the Dick Cavett show. Or, we're just looking to stir things up -- but Mr. O'Brien himself says, "It's like a Greek tragedy. Like watching a company going insane, instead of a person."

Will be good to see what is about to happen there...

Dirk Barnett, new CD at Maxim

Dirk Barnett, recently of the dearly-departed Blender, is the new CD at Alpha Media Group's Maxim as of today. Dirk, we're expecting good stuff out of this too!

Big Changes at Men's Health

Over at Rodale, the company that will do anything to get you to show off (or just acknowledge?) your abs (we're just holding out for when they personally send a trainer out with every subscription), some major news to share about our friends in the art & photo departments at Men's Health, stemming from the newly created Men's Health and Women's Health Books division: George Karabotsos, longtime DD for the magazine, has been named Design Director of Men's Health Books. In this new role, George will not only oversee the design of all books, bookazines, and newsstand-only magazines along with brand creative director Joe Heroun, but also support MensHealth.com and the digital multimedia brand extensions that will emerge from the site.

In addition, Brandon Kavulla, former Design Director at Best Life, has been named Design Director of Men's Health. Joining him at the magazine will be two additional former members of Best Life's creative team--Associate Art Director Dena Verdesca and Deputy Photo Editor Jeanne Graves--filling the same positions at Men's Health. Ayla Christman will also be joining the magazine as Associate Photo Editor.

Janet Froelich, New CD at Real Simple

We're hearing that Janet Froelich, longtime Creative Director for The New York Times magazines, is heading over to Time Inc. for the newly created Creative Director position overseeing the Real Simple brand: magazines, website, television.

Katie Schad, New Director of Photography at Oprah

Jennifer Crandall has left her position as Director of Photography at O, the Oprah Magazine. Katie Schad will be the new DP for the magazine with Design Director Kerry Robertson.

Kate Elazegui, New AD at Money

Always up for a good piece of news, we hear from multiple sources that, although the "official" Time Inc. memo isn't out yet, it's definite -- Kate Elazegui, most recently in the top spot at the revamped-then-retired Radar, will be the new AD at Money.

Anna Last, new Editor of Martha Stewart's Everyday Food

The Real Simple/Martha Stewart to and fro continues.  Aussie expat Anna Last is leaving her post as Senior Style Editor for Real Simple where she has served since November of '07.  Anna will head up Martha's Everyday Food starting in the new year.

Brendan Stephens, New AD at Body + Soul

After nine years (!!), Brendan Stephens, AD for The Boston Globe Magazine has moved on for the AD position at Body + Soul, MSLO's health and wellness title based in Massachusetts.

Promotions at Best Life

Brandon Kavulla, longtime AD for Rodale's Best Life, has been promoted to Design Director, and his Assistant AD, Dena Verdesca, has been promoted to Associate AD. Congrats to both!

Steve Adams, New Creative Services Manager for Amarillo Globe-News

News from the Southwest: Steve Adams is the new Creative Services Manager for the Amarillo Globe-News. He had been the Sr. Art Director for The Arizona Republic's Custom Publishing division.

Catherine Hawthorne, new Deputy AD at Field & Stream

From dear projects to deer projects: Catherine Hawthorne, formerly the Art Project Manager for Real Simple Special Projects, is the new Deputy AD at Field & Stream.

Hector Sanchez, New CD at Portland Monthly

The command GO WEST is a strong one, and some just must follow: Hector Sanchez, formerly DD at Atlanta Magazine, is newly relocated to Oregon and the new CD for Portland Monthly Magazine

Francesca Messina, New Sr. Group AD at McGraw-Hill

Francesca Messina has left her position as Sr. AD at Workman Publishing for the Sr. Group AD position at McGraw-Hill. What, exactly, that means, from Francesca herself:
After a brief foray into the world of book publishing, I have been lured back to magazine-land. I'm now the Senior Group Art Director of the McGraw-Hill Construction Group of architecture and construction trade publications. The magazines I'll be overseeing include Architectural Record; the newsweekly Engineering News-Record; a magazine about green architecture, GreenSource; and a new startup for executives, HQ, built on the premise that good design is good business.
Victory, magazines.

Eric Capossela Promoted to Atlanta DD

Eric Capossela takes over Hector Sanchez's chair at Atlanta magazine as design director.

Josh Klenert, New CD for Clear Channel Online

Josh Klenert who's been more in-tune with the Hot 100 than most of us as the CD at Billboard, is making the jump from, er, paper to pixels...

From the man himself:
Out of the blue, I was offered a position I couldn't refuse.

I will be making the jump to online as Creative Director for Clear Channel Online Music & Radio. This is a newly created position, where I will be responsible for user experience and our general creative direction for web design and video.
Sounds like someone needs to RSVP!

Jordan Barnes, New PD at Seventeen

Jordan Barnes has been named the new PD at Seventeen. She had been freelancing at Real Simple, and before that was part of the photo departments at InStyle Special Issues and O, the Oprah Magazine.

Kerry Robertson, New DD at Oprah

We've heard it from 2 different sources, so we think this is safe to run with: Kerry Robertson, will be the new DD at O, the Oprah Magazine, with new(-ish) editor Susan Reed. This is a familiar working relationship, as both had most recently held the same titles at now-shuttered Golf for Women.

Robert Parsons, New CD at RMS Media

Robert Parsons is the new CD at RMS Media, home to luxury books Ocean Home, Northshore, Ferrari and the like, as well as frequent SPD award-winner Proto. He had been CD for Boston magazine and Boston's sister publications.

Ian Doherty, New AD at Food Network Magazine

Ian Doherty, formerly the Deputy AD at Travel & Leisure Golf and Co-Chair of SPD's Student Competition, is the new AD at Hearst's October launch, Food Network Magazine, working with DD Deidre Koribanick (also formerly at T&L Golf). We sense a pattern here...

Tim J Luddy, New CD at Mother Jones

Tim J Luddy, former AD at Mother Jones magazine, has been promoted to the CD
position. Mother Jones' new AD will be Carolyn Perot, formerly Associate AD
at Stanford magazine.

Kayo der Sarkissian, new CD at Fitness

From Mediabistro this morning, word that Kayo der Sarkissian, formerly the AD at Parenting, has joined Fitness as their new CD.

(Note: corrected Wednesday morning, 8/27: it's Parenting, not Parents, that Kayo is leaving.)
