Pub Crawl Raves

Our Pub(lications) Crawl event last Friday was a big hit. Students from around the NYC-area and beyond got invaluable behind-the-scenes looks at Family Circle, Martha Stewart Living, The New York Times Magazine, People, Popular Mechanics and Teen Vogue. But don't take our word for it: hear it straight from your fellow students' mouths....

(Above Deputy Design Director Neil Jamieson tells students about the processes behind People magazine.)

#20: Design or Decoration?

This Is Who We Are:

Nancy Stamatopoulos

While we were preparing for our first event of the academic year (tomorrow's Pub Crawl), we thought it might help to give you a little hint into who "we" are. As one of SPD's many committees, the Student Committee is made up of a bunch of hard-working, fun professionals who are all about helping YOU. Just who are these dedicated people? Let us introduce ourselves... (This post is the first in a series profiling the members of our Student Committee.)

Only 4 Days Left to Register for the Year's ONLY Pub Crawl

Only 4 Days Left to Register for the Year's ONLY Pub Crawl

The registration deadline for our Pub(lications) Crawl event is 11:30pm Monday, so sign up now! Tour B is full, but Tour A and Tour C still have room, though they're filling up fast. We're only doing one Pub Crawl this year (as opposed to previous years where we did it once in the fall and once in the spring), so don't miss out on this awesome opportunity to get behind-the-scenes access.

For those of you who will be attending, we've got some trivia questions:

• Which of the magazines we'll visit (shown above) once published a multi-part graphic novel in every edition?

• Which is published under a different title in Australia, because its name was already taken by a lad's mag that features scantily clad women?

• Which was started by a former stockbroker?

Think you know the answers? Find out for sure next Friday! Sign up here.

POP QUIZ: Know what that phrase means?
If not, you should check out our Vocab Lesson series from last fall. This is where we try to give you some insider info on the terms and words you'll hear in the magazine world. Some are graphic design terms you might already be familiar with, while others are total magazine-ese ... things like spread, gutter and F.O.B. ... and no, it's not what it might sound like. Before we start this fall's lessons, let's take a look back at what we've already covered. How many of these words do YOU know?
