Internship Insight: Syracuse U's Communications Design Students

Internship Insight: Syracuse U's Communications Design Students

While those of you attending school in NYC or other major cities have more opportunities to pursue internships year-round, there's all the rest of you who have to rely heavily on your summer months to gain real world experience. At Syracuse University, for example, the Communications Design students have come to realize that they need to make the most of their May-August, and many of them got awesome internships this past summer around the country and world.

From magazine internships at top NYC publishers to a design firm in Spain to self publishing with friends, here's a glimpse at what your fellow students were up to a few months back (and maybe it'll give you ideas for your own internship/project plans for next summer!)...

2015 Pub Crawl Wrap-Up

2015 Pub Crawl Wrap-Up

Over 60 students attended our Pub(lications) Crawl on Friday, October 2, 2015, visiting the offices of Entertainment Weekly, Woman's Day, W, Popular Mechanics, Esquire, 8x8, TIME and design firm Segal Savad. You can check out photos from the event on our SPD-U Facebook page here.

It was an incredible day of insights and inspiration. But don't just take our word for it ... hear what the attendees actually had to say...

"It was exactly what I was hoping it would be and a little more. Very well run, and both places were excited to have us, and showed us some really awesome things."

"The tour was amazing! It really reinforced that this is the career path I want to stay on."

"I loved the enthusiasm and positivity shown by the staffs ... you could certainly feel the camaraderie among everyone at both magazines. Everyone whom we met was extremely amiable and open to questions from students."

"Really awesome presenters who seemed to genuinely care about our time with them."

"It was great meeting so many different people who help create the publication, not just the creative directors. It was also really great to have a weekly publication and then a monthly. It was a great experience to see how the two differentiate."

"I really loved it. It got me excited to go home and design things."

Thanks to all of you who attended, and a HUGE thanks to our tour hosts and amazing tour guides: Sergio Capursi, Christine Fink, Ida Garland, Lauren Heffron, Ryan Padgett, Brandon Penny, Adri Ramdeane and Alexa Speyer!!
