SagaCity Media has an opening in its Seattle office for an art director to work in our Custom Media division. The art director will join our Custom team to help develop and produce art content--publication design, photography, illustration, and layouts--for several of SagaCity's Custom clients. Duties include: working with the creative team to set a vision for publications; assigning, producing, or sourcing photography and illustrations; designing magazine pages; developing maps, charts, and other information graphics; and managing freelance art relationships and project budgets. The candidate must have the ability to conceive and execute original designs, a keen eye for photography, exceptional typography skills, and fastidious attention to detail. The candidate must also be able to work effectively in daily collaboration with internal editorial, production, and design teams, and must maintain close working relationships with external clients. Candidates should be comfortable managing projects from end to end, including presenting and acting as the design point person to external clients, creating comprehensive schedules, and other tasks as needed to ensure all project milestones are met.

Designer/Illustrator

Help lead the digital transformation of one of Seattle's most iconic media brands, driving key initiatives to optimize print while accelerating digital growth. The Seattle Times has an opening for a creative, energetic designer with illustration skills to join our visual team. We cover news and events that impact the people who live, work and care about Seattle and the surrounding region. In addition to providing excellent journalism, our team designs and maintains all platforms that publish it, from our daily paper to seattletimes.com. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on deadline in a fast-paced environment. The designer will be responsible for designing daily pages and interactive projects as well as creating illustrations. The designer should be a self-starter who is able to think creatively and provide visual solutions to enhance our storytelling. What will you do? • Produce effective designs and illustrations (static and/or interactive) for daily and project use within the established style guidelines for various coverage areas on multiple platforms. • Must have an emphasis on: appropriateness of style, execution, clarity of visual storytelling, impact, concept, accuracy and a commitment to proofreading and editing all design work. • Take a multi-platform approach to design and storytelling and participate in the associated prototyping, storyboarding and planning endeavors. Assistant Art Director

Grist is seeking an Assistant Art Director who will provide daily creative support for our award-winning green-news website and related organizational projects. You will work directly with Grist's editorial staff, and will be responsible for various media including illustrations for articles, stand-alone images, and other projects. You must have a strong illustration portfolio, a well-developed sense of humor, and a willingness to have fun, play, and get creative -- all with an eye to meeting deadlines. Deadlines. Always deadlines. Responsibilities: You will be in charge of all images and other media that accompany Grist articles: Must be able to execute illustrations for articles in collaboration with editors and writers; Must have enthusiasm for all forms of editorial illustration -- cartoons, illustrations, infographics, photos, etc. Should be familiar with latest internet image language, from hot styles to meme-y photohacks; Will develop -- or even arrive with -- a growing database of artists you can call on to provide illustration or other support when necessary; Will be open to design direction and be able to adapt to Grist's evolving house style, and Will also have specific, growing design vision and ideas to implement and experiment with, especially in regard to special editorial projects and tools for storytelling (infographics, motion graphics, slideshows, timelines, videos, etc) You will also illustrate materials for marketing and development projects as requested by those departments, including illustrations for campaigns, T-shirts, annual reports, printed cards, etc. Consider it a fun 10% of the job, and as most of these deadlines are not same day, you will often get to collaborate with other illustrators, depending on the project, and some truly creative Gristers!
